Balderton: news

In case you missed it, we learned in the New Year that Suranga was awarded an OBE for services to engineering and technology. All pretty proud of him here, actually.

James is of the opinion that 2018 will be the software industry's 'seatbelt' moment — drawing a parallel to when government required the automobile industry to introduce seatbelts. Contrary to beliefs at the time, this didn't destroy the automobile industry. James sees government-sponsored reform is coming. And he thinks that's a good thing. Read his opinion piece in VentureBeat

Nicolas was interviewed by France 3 on the topic of bitcoin, cryptocurrency and portfolio company Luno. You can view the interview here (18th minute).

Suranga quoted Roy Amara in his piece this month in the Evening Standard: "we overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run" to remind us we often get excited about innovative ideas, and then become disillusioned when they fail to deliver immediately. With that in mind, read his take on self-driving cars, the hype cycle of crypto-currencies, the AI-powered office, and the year of reckoning ahead for us all with Brexit.
